Dwelling in the Secret Place

I lay me down to rest
trust softens my pillow
wrapped in His wings

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust:
his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. —
Psalm 91:1-4
SECURITY
NOT AFRAID
Do you see that nest on yonder tree?
Some little bird built it there.
To her it’s a place of security,
Even though it’s high in the air.
When the wild wind blows she loves to ride
In the cradle she has made;
I suppose that she’s at peace inside
For God made her…unafraid.
Do you see that flock on the distant hill,
In the purple clovers laid?
Did you note the beauty of the scene,
As they slumbered there in the shade?
Did you see that cloud in the western sky?
Did you hear the thunder roll?
When the lightening flashes far and high,
Did it seems to shake your soul?
Do you have fears of the stormy deep,
And the terrible winds that blow?
Or do you have the peace of the bird and sheep
As onward in life you go?
Have you felt the touch of the Master’s hand
In this mighty world He made;
Has He drawn right close to you my friend,
Has He whispered, “Be not afraid?”
Then why not come to Him just now,
And surrender to Him your will?
To Him, Who spoke on Galilee,
“Oh, boisterous waves be still.”
And you shall know that inward peace
That far surpasses man;
For He will give you sweet release,
This is His wonderful plan.
I CAN TRUST
I cannot see beyond today,
  but I can trust
that He who guides me all the way
  is wise and just.
And He will let no tempest wild
  overwhelm His child.
I cannot know the realms of space
  from star to star;
but this I know:  God’s wondrous grace
  can reach as far
and yet He cares for even me
  wherever I be
I may not know the reason why
  of simple things
but over the greatest I can fly
  on faith’s strong wings,
and live a life of trust and love
  in God above.
Little Boy’s First Steps
THE FIRST STEPS
by Edgar Guest
Last night I held my arms to you
and you held yours to mine
and started out to march to me
as any soldier fine.
You lifted up your little feet
and laughingly advanced;
and I stood there and gazed upon
your first wee steps, entranced.
You gooed and gurgled as you came
without a sign of fear;
as though you knew, your journey o’er,
I’d greet you with a cheer.
And what is more, you seemed to know,
although you are so small
that I was there, with eager arms,
to save you from a fall.
Three tiny steps you took, and then
disaster and dismay!
Your over-confidence had led
your little feet astray.
You did not see what we could see
nor fear what us alarms;
you stumbled, but ere you could fall
I caught you in my arms.
You little tyke, in days to come
you’ll bravely walk alone.
And you may have to wander paths
where dangers lurk, unknown.
And, oh, I pray that then as now,
when accidents befall
you’ll still remember that I’m near
to save you from a fall.
